here is good news and bad news as we experience this summer of August. Good news is you do not have to do too much in the way of mowing your yard and pastures. Yes, it is a real summertime adventure with the temps perfect for swimming and cooling off with that big glass of ice tea under one or those majestic oak trees in your backyard. Bad news is it is so hot that most all the yards are a toasty brown and the pastures are so dry there is no grass, or even weeds for that matter, to mow or shred. The summertime temperatures have really taken out the Model T outings for now. Let's try to start thinking about those cool October fall days that will be here soon enough. In the meantime, find a cool shady place to take time and have your car checked out for the next trip. Check the condition of your tires, condition of your wheels, bearings, etc. Give it a lube job if needed, making sure you do not miss any of the grease fittings. Check the oil, fill the radiator, fill the gas tank, and when those cool days come, we can all meet for a nice cool backroad county T ride.
I have my Model T currently at Lilleker Antique Auto Restorations. The car currently has a stock engine that is getting a new rebuild engine with the Model A crank installed with a high compression head, a Warford transmission, and Rocky Mountain brakes to balance the package. Do not want to turn the car into a speed machine --- just when the need for extra power is needed it will be there for those hill climbs and great braking. The goal of this conversion is to be ready for some of those extended tours Ben and Ross so like to travel. When the time is right and all the stars lined up, the car, Patsy and I will be ready for a great extended Model T tour. There are several tours that Ross and Jennifer Lilleker are already planning. Check out our Texas Touring Ts website for the details.
If you are in the process of getting a Model T, or know someone who wants to get involved in the hobby, be sure to bring them to our monthly meetings. The meetings bring a wealth of information concerning the hobby as well as experiences to assist new folks to the hobby. Knowledge comes from experience, bad experience gives you knowledge! Most of the stuff people worry about never happens. So put your worries away, crank up that Model T and enjoy life in the slow lane.
