RADIATOR CAPS

While attending the Texas T Party in Tyler last week, it was interesting to look at the variety of Model T cars parked in the Holiday Inn parking lot. And along with all of those beautiful cars, there was a variety of radiator caps as well.

When Henry Ford's Model T first hit the roads in the early part of the 1900s, steam coming out of the hood of the car spelled T-R-O-U-B-L-E. The motor operated best if the cooling system was between 170 and 180 degrees, but there was no way to determine if the engine was operating at the correct temperature.

The motormeter was one of several devices developed to monitor the engine temperature. Take a look below at the variety of radiator caps used by tour participants.
