Ben saw his first Model T when he was about 12. It was a '27 Fordor and Ben was fascinated. It belonged to his cousin, John Cole, a man Ben's mother's age. Ben tried for years to buy the car but it took 40 years for John to decide he probably would never get it restored and to sell it to Ben. It is the maroon fordor we drove to Alaska in 2001 and we still own it.

Ben bought his first Model T when he was 16 or 17 and owned it up until 1989 when he sold it. He has told the current owner that he would buy it back if she ever wants to sell it.

There have been numerous cars along the way. The blue 1927 Touring that Ben and Jennifer took to Alaska in 1987, the summer she was nine. The black '26 pickup that the girls drove on the 2001 Alaska trip and that we have driven on tours in Colorado, Wyoming, Utah, Florida, and a good bit of Texas. Ginger even drove it to New York and Massachusetts a few years ago. There was the green "doctor's coupe" we bought on our way out of Alaska and Jennifer drove it home.

Some of the T's we've owned have great memories attached; some are just cars. Some were fun; some were more trouble than they were worth. But they run through Ben's life like a constant thread. His girls drove a T before they were legal in a modern car and it gives him great pleasure that both girls still have T's in their lives as adults.

No matter how hot or cold, rainy or windy or rough the road, Ben always has a good day when he is driving a Model T.
