BEN HARDEMAN'S ZAGELMEYER CAMPERMany of you know that Ben Hardeman was busy during the last few months building a new Zagelmeyer camper to take on his trip out west. He worked long hours and these are the first photos and e-mails that he sent to document his work. The finished camper is truly a work of art. He has lighting on the inside with a mattress on each side. There is a small table that folds down between the mattresses and shelving above the door and above the table. The workmanship is unbelievable and it is truly a beautiful place where Ben and Nancy can rest at night. |
e-mail date: May 27, 2009 Here are some photographs of the new Zagelmeyer taken May 27th. I've got a lot of work to do in the next 10 days. The canvas is assembled into three pieces - Front panel, Rear panel, and one piece going all the way from the outside of one bed to the outside of the other bed. Now I have to make those two 17 foot seams to complete the sewing and then install it on the trailer. As you can see some of the wood is still in need of finishing also. The mattresses are completed and ready to install. I'm pleased with it but it has been quite a project. It will have 110 Volt power where available and both 12V and 110 Volt power from a power converter in a self contained mode. I should be able to finish it for all practical purposes this weekend. Ben

e-mail date: June 4, 2009 I finished sewing and installing the canvas cover this evening at 7:30 which was the last major thing I had to do to complete the trailer. I still have a few tasks to have it ready for the road trip but think I will be able to get them done and leave Sunday morning. I still need to install a top kit on my roadster pickup, or I guess I could just consider the holes in the top a sunroof. When I get to Colorado I may just find a nice campsite and rest. Tomorrow I will take some pictures of the camper opened up and ready for occupancy. It weighs about 750#, has self contained 110v and 12v power. No bathroom however. Sleeps four but two probably sleep better. Ben
