Paul Spitzenberger's daughter approached him about entering the Katy rodeo parade that was held on January 17. He said it seemed like fun so he told her he would enter his 1911 Model T Torpedo. When he made the application, he discovered there would be judging in several categories, with three places in each. He entered his vintage car in the antique cars and equipment division.
The theme of the event was Old Glory, and since it was a windy day, Old Glory did fly. Paul said he lost his radiator flags two times but his side flags and large back flags were fine.
Paul said the crowd reacted favorably to "Buttercup," his car, and she was a real hit. Many photos were taken and some are now on computer screens at Katy High School.
His Torpedo won second place out of fifteen entries. Paul says there was no steam and no boil over, but she did mark the parade route.
