In Your Dreams

Have you ever had a dream that was too good to be true? Put yourself in this Model T-er's dream and follow the steps in the dream sequences. There will be a surprise for you when you wake up from the dream, but try not to read ahead to the bottom of the story.

1. Your dream has started and you just built a garage that was the size of a football field. Now, pick the number of Model Ts you would like to own. (More than one but less than 10)

2. Let's not stop there; this is a dream so go ahead and fill up that huge garage you just built. Multiply the number of cars you have by 2.

cars

3. There is a little bit of space left in that garage of your dreams and you just found 5 great looking Ts on eBay...and they were free! Add 5 to your total.

4. Oh my gosh, your boss just gave you a fantastic raise (first clue that this is a dream) and you have money to burn. Multiply the number of cars you have by 50! (Can this get any better?)

5. Yes, it can. The MTFCA is giving Ts away to the best Model Ter in the USA and you are the lucky winner. If you have already had your birthday this year, add 1758 more cars to your total. If you haven't had your birthday this year, add 1757 cars to your total.

6. Oh rats, you are starting to wake up from your dream and some of your cars are cranking up by themselves and rolling away. Take the four digit year in which you were born and subtract that many cars from your total.

7. You should now have a three digit number and that is the number of cars you have left in that great big garage of yours.

8. You wake up and all you remember is that three digit number.

9. The first digit was the number of Model T cars you wanted to own when the dream started.

10. The next two numbers are...YOUR AGE!

By the way, the year 2008 is the only year in which this can happen.

The Cost of Gasoline

gas

On February 25, 1919, Oregon was the first state to tax gasoline at a whopping one cent per gallon. The average cost of a gallon of gas back then was 25 cents.

As we all know, there are now taxes on gasoline in every state and, according to Energy API, Texans pay 38.4 cents in state and federal taxes for every gallon of gasoline they purchase. If your Model T holds 10 gallons of gas, you pay $3.84 in taxes for each fill-up.

A Message from the President

president's message

If you have been following these pages, you have seen that the Texas Touring T’s has already been on the road extensively since our first “official” meeting in January. Our recent road trip, a Bluebonnet Tour to the Hill Country, is reviewed in great detail with wonderful photographs on the website and in our newsletter.

Martin Thoman of San Marcos, Gerald Cain of Canyon Lake, and Ross Lilleker of College Station, all members of our club, put the tour together. They made their plans, checked their maps, talked with locals in the Johnson City area and sent out the invitation. And that was for an overnight tour. Day tours don’t require that level of organization – just check the “Roads of Texas” atlas and figure out a route that keeps us off the main roads. Whether it is only a few cars (this one had eight) or a larger group, people who love to tour in their T’s are pretty flexible. You can plan a tour or you can join in. It is fun either way.

Our club now has 28 paid member families, scattered around the state. What does it take to be a member of the Texas Touring T’s? You need a love of Model T’s, an enjoyment in driving them, and an interest in meeting others who feel the same. Oh, and filling out the application on our website and paying your $20 annual dues.

We meet monthly and we talk about Model T’s. Take a look at our website for the place and time and come join us. If you believe in driving your Model T, not just admiring it, we want you to be a part of our club.

Ben Hardeman – President
