If you love flowers, you would love touring the Azalea Trail. On Sunday, March 29, 2009, members of several Texas clubs met in Tyler to tour the annual flower extravaganza. Jennifer Lilleker planned the driving tour through eight miles of beautifully groomed homes that had more flowers blooming in their yards than you could possibly imagine.
Those who attended the event were Gerald, Doris and Shirley Cain of Lone Star T’s and Texas Touring Ts, Ted and Janis Dumas of Lone Star T’s, Chuck and Ada Ganze of Space City T’s, David and Kathy Harris of Lone Star T’s, Dennis and Gwen Irvine of Space City T’s and Texas Touring Ts, Jennifer Lilleker of Texas Touring Ts, Louis and Joan Mickler of Space City T’s, Gary and Suzy Page of Lone Star Ts and Space City T’s, Richard and Juli Smith of Space City T’s, Dennis and Judy Weis of Space City T's and Ernie and Ginger Wentrcek of Texas Touring Ts.
The highlight of the tour was getting the opportunity to walk through the private garden of a very creative homeowner. The stone-lined paths wound around through an impeccably groomed garden that had surprises in the most unexpected places. Arched stone bridges spanned a creek bed, statues were tucked among the greenery, a chandelier hung in the trees and flowers of all varieties grew on the grounds. The two most popular words were "ooh" and "ahh." This particular yard could give any botanical garden a run for its money.
After driving through the trails, everyone met for lunch at Luby's Cafeteria and later, several members of the touring party took another spin through the neighborhoods. Then, it was time to put the car on the trailer and head for home.
